Today is National Technology Day. So much has changed in technology since I was a kid. My favorite is the telephone. I remember using the home phone (that now I have to explain to my children). We had this super long cord on it so you could carry the phone all around the house. If you had call waiting it was a luxury and if not, you was not to be on the phone until that expected phone call came through. If you left the house you better make sure you had change to use the pay phone to check in or in case of an emergency. Life was so much simpler then. Conversations were not as interrupted. Now we depend on cell phones so much. You can literally do just about anything on them. Personally, I think this ruins time with loved ones. There is just always something to do. I can not imagine what technology will be like 10 years from now.
What are some of the things you remember that have changed? My son calls the original Nintendo “the grey box”. I have had to explain a what a pager was and I remember the first time he seen a VHS tape. Businesses have grown greatly with technology. No need to place an ad in the Yellow Pages. I remember when Aadvanced Limousines started. We used a pen and paper to take reservations. Then we moved onto Google Calendar and thought that was the best thing ever. Now we are paperless. All reservations go through a reservations system. All chauffeurs use apps to get their jobs, collect signatures and for name boards at the airport.
While technology is great, please step away from it at the important times. Family gatherings, date nights, children’s birthdays. Don’t let the time you have with them pass you by because of everything you have at your fingertips.
